“Because Every Unwanted Dog Deserves A New Horizon”

Each week I spotlight one of my animal rescue partners whose hard work, compassion and dedication make a difference for homeless animals. This week we celebrate New Horizon Dog Rescue!

New Horizon Dog Rescue is a 501(c)3 not for profit organization working full time in the transfer and care of “death row” dogs and cats contained in high-kill shelters. The adoption fee is often less than the expense to rehabilitate. We do not refuse animals based on their breed, age or health condition. We do not refuse heartworm positive dogs nor mange-infested dogs. Our treatments, paid in full by our rescue, have been unanimously successful in rendering afflicted dogs to healthy status.

NEW HORIZON 911 EMERGENCY RESPONSE AND TRANSPORT: We travel within a 6-hour radius for puppies tested positive for the deadly Parvovirus at shelters. Since time is of the essence, we initiate treatment immediately upon arrival at the shelter. The protocol we developed proves highly successful in saving the lives of puppies who would otherwise have been euthanized.

All dogs under New Horizon Dog Rescue, Inc., are veterinarian examined, spayed/neutered, current on all vaccines, heartworm tested, bathed and exercised regularly, fed only 5-star foods, toenails addressed, ears cleaned, provided flea/tick and heartworm prevention monthly, temperament assessed and provided professional behavioral modification if needed.

It’s A Pittie Rescue – “Give pit bulls a chance”

Each week I spotlight one of my animal rescue partners whose hard work, compassion and dedication make a difference for homeless animals. This week we celebrate It’s A Pittie Rescue!

It’s A Pittie Rescue is dedicated to rescuing, re-habbing, and re-homing the Pit Bull breeds and educating people about one of America’s most loyal and kind breed, one dog at a time.

The Rescue Dogs:

Our dogs are placed into loving, caring foster homes until they are ready to be adopted by their responsible new owners. Since we are a foster based rescue, we get to know our dogs very well, so we can help you find the best dog to fit your lifestyle. Our adoption fee includes a spay/neuter, heartworm test, vaccines, and a microchip.

While in their foster homes, the dogs are also working on learning things like crate training, potty training, and basic commands so they can be their best!

‘Preserve the bond between people and animals’

Each week I spotlight one of my animal rescue partners whose hard work, compassion and dedication make a difference for homeless animals. This week it’s Touched By An Animal!

Our UNIQUE MISSION serves to aid companion animals whose persons are both willing and grateful to have and keep them but who may need assistance in the form of food and litter donations, vet care expenses, and boarding. Many of the people we help — the elderly, the homeless, or those who are in transition (both financially and geographically) — fall within the underserved (and sadly, often forgotten and dismissed) population. Their companion animals are in need of temporary and/or lifetime homes, veterinary care, and nutrition.

We feel honored to help these persons maintain a sense of normalcy even as they experience so much change in their lives. We currently have both long- and short-term feline residents in our home, and we are committed to their lifetime care as well as finding suitable, loving homes for them.

“Our mission is to find great people for wonderful dogs”

Each week I spotlight one of my animal rescue partners whose hard work, compassion and dedication make a difference for homeless animals. This week it’s Illinois English Bulldog Rescue!

Welcome to Illinois English Bulldog Rescue (IEBR).  IEBR was formed in 2009 to find homes for purebred English Bulldogs.  IEBR rescues dogs from shelters and puppymills and accepts dogs from owners who for any reason can no longer provide a home for their bully.

The bulldogs that come through our rescue program are seldom in “perfect” condition in terms of health, temperament or both; however with a little love, medical attention and time, rescued English Bulldogs make great companions.

IEBR does not find dogs for people – our mission is to find great people for wonderful dogs.

“A Safe Haven for Domestic Animals”

We are a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization, located in Temecula, CA.

“The only answer is responsible pet ownership…”

Each week I spotlight one of my animal rescue partners whose hard work, compassion and dedication make a difference for homeless animals.  This week it’s Sweetpups Dog Rescue!

We are a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt organization.  All donations are tax deductible! We operate on donations and modest adoption fees to help with the vet needs of the dogs.  Every dog we adopt has been fully vetted, up to date on shots, spayed or neutered, and placed on heart worm preventative and flea prevention.

Sweetpups was actually planted in my heart in October of 2009 when I went to the pound looking for a cat for my apartment-dwelling daughter. I didn’t find a cat but found Jaxon, a full-blood rat terrier, instead. At that point, when I saw the kennel full of adoptable dogs that were inevitably going to be euthanized, I knew at some point I would become involved in a mission to save as many as possible. It really wasn’t until May of 2010 that I felt the vision move closer to reality.

The more we do for the dogs, the more we find that needs to be done. The more we save, the more we see that need to be saved. It’s a vicious cycle in which we find ourselves involved – trying to outrun the euthanasia needle, trying to find good forever homes, trying to save just one more dog…. and trying to get pet owners actively involved in the spay and neuter process. We will never be able to adopt our way out of this situation as there are not enough homes for all the dogs. The only answer is responsible pet ownership, which includes spay and neuter.

Realizing we needed to do more than just rescue the dogs, we started to reach out into the community in other ways, helping pet owners understand the need to get their pet spayed or neutered and offering as much support as possible toward that end.  We also emphasize the importance of heart worm prevention (especially since we are in such a high mosquito region) and provide the adopter with as much information about the disease as we can. Each dog is heart worm tested and every dog is either treated or placed on heart worm prevention. All dogs in our care receive monthly HW prevention and we encourage all adopters to continue with the prevention.

“Where Pups Are Our Passion…”

Each week I spotlight one of my animal rescue partners whose hard work, compassion and dedication make a difference for homeless animals.  This week it’s Texas Best Choices Animal Rescue!

Texas Best Choices Animal Rescue was born out of a deep love and concern for animals. It began because of the huge need in a community with no city or county animal services. Many times puppies, pregnant dogs, and unwanted dogs are left at our entrance or tied to our gate overnight. They are all in need of a safe place to live and recover from the harsh life of being hungry, homeless or unwanted.

Every dog run is covered with large carports, dog igloos with large covered feeders and water tanks. The dogs also have a separate water tank, so they can cool themselves off during the hot days of summer. These runs are so large and spacious, “dog run” doesn’t really describe their fenced in areas.

Adoption is our ultimate goal for these precious animals and we have found homes for hundreds. There are many heartwarming stores of our furry friends finding the right home and the joy they bring to those that have adopted them. We believe in providing more than just a place for pets to wait for their forever home, as we are a happy place where the dogs thrive as they wait.

It is our goal to provide long term care if needed or the opportunity through adoption to give each dog the story that says, “and they lived happily ever after”.

“A Measurable & Sustainable Difference…”

Each week I spotlight one of my rescue partners whose hard work and dedication make a difference for homeless animals.  This week it’s Special Pals!

Our mission is to make a measurable and sustainable difference in the Greater Houston pet population by offering affordable pet care services, rescuing and rehabilitating homeless companion animals, finding forever homes, and providing education about responsible pet ownership.  Special Pals is a no-kill, nonprofit animal shelter that relies on your donations to continue making an impact.

Special Pals has been operating in the Houston area for over 20 years. The shelter’s original location was on Bellaire Blvd. In the mid-90’s, the shelter moved out to it’s current location on Greenhouse Road near Katy.

The shelter facility sits on over 3 1/2 beautifully wooded acres and provides shelter to approximately 70 dogs and cats.

The staff maintains the facilities and cares for the animals 7 days a week. Our wonderful volunteers work daily either “hands on” with the animals or away from the shelter at at fund-raising events or related projects.
